Preventive Care

Cleanings

We strive to educate all our patients on preventing dental decay and preserving healthy teeth and gingival tissues. This begins with routine dental cleanings where we remove tarter and plaque that has formed on the teeth. Tarter is hardened bacteria and plaque is soft bacteria that has formed on your teeth that can cause gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gum tissue. If tarter or plaque is not removed from the teeth the gingivitis can lead to periodontitis, which is gum disease.

At your routine dental cleaning, we evaluate gum tissues, take dental x-rays, perform an oral cancer screening, review medical history, medications and may discuss diet to help maintain the healthy smile we want all our patients to have. We discuss the proper brushing and flossing techniques that help prevent unhealthy teeth and gums.
